Professional experience

Emily graduated from the University of Tasmania in 1999 with a combined Bachelor of Arts/Law degree, majoring in Sociology.

Emily joined the Devonport division of Rae & Partners, Levis Stace & Cooper in 2010, after practicing as a solicitor in Family Law with the Legal Aid Commission of Tasmania (both in Hobart and on the North West Coats of Tasmania) and then in private practice.

Emily is the Team Leader of the Family Law Team at Rae & Partners.

She has training in alternative dispute resolution methods, including mediation style conferencing.  Emily is a passionate promoter of alternative dispute resolution and believes the process can be effective and empowering forums to achieve the best possible outcomes for her clients.  Emily also prides herself on thorough preparation of matters that may ultimately have to proceed to the trial stage.

Having returned from maternity leave, Emily has a reinvigorated perspective in family law.  Her simple philosophy is to empower and inform her clients, providing a service with care and understanding.  Emily has a straight forward approach to provide her clients with successful and positive outcomes.

Project highlights

  • Submissions to the Federal Circuit Court of Australia, successfully advocating for the retention of Circuit Court listings on the North West Coast of Tasmania.

  • Member of the Family Law Practitioners Association (Tasmania) since 1999.
  • Member of the Law Council of Australia, Family Law Section since 1999.
  • Member of Australian Institute of Family Law Mediators and Arbitrators, since 2012.
