By Rae & Partners — November 07, 2024

In this staff spotlight, we introduce Christie Cox-Haines, a dedicated and empathetic Rae & Partners Family Law team member who has been guiding clients through life's most pivotal moments for eight years.

Initially starting in the Commercial and Property Law team in 2016, Christie found her calling in Family Law and transitioned to the team in 2017, bringing her passion for helping families to the forefront.

A journey from journalism aspirations to law

Christie's path to law was a discovery rather than a calling. Initially drawn to a career in journalism, she opted for a combined Arts/Law degree at university and soon found law subjects capturing her interest in ways she hadn't anticipated. From that point on, there was no looking back.

Christie's educational journey began at Exeter High School and continued at Don College after moving to Ulverstone. After a gap year working in retail, she felt ready to pursue her studies and moved to Hobart, where she attended the University of Tasmania. Alongside her studies, she worked in hospitality, played soccer, and even refereed matches for Football Tasmania!

In 2014, Christie graduated with a combined Arts/Law Degree with Honours in Law. Following her admission to the legal profession in 2015, she took some time to backpack through Europe before returning to her hometown of Devonport to begin her career with Rae & Partners. Since then, she has been an invaluable member of the team, dedicating her practice to Family Law.

Making a difference in difficult times

For Christie, Family Law is about more than legal expertise – it's about making a positive impact during what can be one of the most challenging periods in a person's life. She describes her work as an opportunity to help clients find clarity and security when navigating the often-complex landscape of family matters.

"For me, it's about the opportunity to make a positive impact in a person's life when they are navigating what is often one of the most difficult times,"

Christie’s dedication to her clients and their families reflects her commitment to ensuring fairness and advocating for children's best interests. Her passion for Family Law, particularly in parenting matters, stems from her own experiences. Having witnessed the complexities of separation firsthand, she felt drawn to support parents and help them focus on their children's best interests during separation.

"It is a privilege to be able to work with clients in this area," Christie says.

Connecting with the community

In addition to working with private clients, Christie represents clients through Legal Aid, extending her services to those who might not otherwise have access to legal representation.

Outside the office, Christie is a devoted mother who enjoys spending quality time with her children and family. Although her involvement in the soccer community has paused since starting her family, she looks forward to returning to the field someday.

When she's not with family, Christie enjoys nature, especially bushwalking and beach days in the summer.

Christie's compassion, expertise, and dedication to her clients have made her a valued member of the Rae & Partners team. Through her work, she exemplifies Rae & Partners' commitment to justice, fairness, and the well-being of our clients and fellow team members. Her advice for newcomers to the legal field is simple yet profound: don't be afraid to explore different areas of law.

"With so many different areas of law, don't be afraid to ask for a change within the law firm if the type of work you are doing isn't quite the right fit for you."

For clients looking to work with Christie, appointments can be made through the Devonport office by calling (03) 6424 0333.
