Sarah Howard: Creating calm in the chaos
Although she’s just joined the Rae & Partners team in May 2025, Sarah brings five years of family law experience to the role, along with a clear sense of purpose: helping people through some of the most difficult chapters of their lives.
"I enjoy the challenge of law and assisting families during their most turbulent and emotional times," Sarah says. "I like to think that on any given day, I’m making a small difference in someone’s life."
After graduating from the University of Tasmania in 2019 with a double degree in Law and Business, Sarah completed her Legal Practice through the College of Law and was admitted to the Supreme Court of Tasmania in June 2020. Before joining Rae & Partners, she worked in another Tasmanian law firm, as well as with Tasmanian Legal Aid.
In June 2025, she will complete her training to become an Independent Children’s Lawyer, a role that further reflects her commitment to advocating for vulnerable people and navigating complex legal territory with care and skill.
Finding the reward in the challenge
Family law can be emotionally heavy and highly complex, but for Sarah, that’s exactly what makes it meaningful. “There’s something rewarding about creating beauty out of chaos,” she says. She thrives in litigation, relishing the structure, pressure, and pace of court work. “There’s an art to court work that most people find intimidating, but I find exhilarating.”
Her day-to-day work is dynamic: meeting with clients, preparing court documents, attending mediations, and advocating in court. No two days are the same, and that’s part of the appeal. She’s especially motivated by helping people move forward after challenging separations, resolving property and parenting matters so families can begin a new chapter.
Sarah is candid about the reality of a legal career. “It’s no walk in the park,” she says. “Depending on the area, you may face the darkest aspects of humanity… it’s your job to unravel that chaos until it becomes manageable.” But for those willing to lean in, the work is deeply rewarding. “There’s an immense sense of achievement in finalising a matter and getting a good outcome for a client.”
Life outside the law
When she’s not in the office or court, Sarah is most likely outdoors. She enjoys hiking, swimming, running, and playing netball, and makes time to connect with friends and family as often as she can.
New clients can make an appointment with Sarah by contacting our office directly and speaking with her secretary.
We’re thrilled to have Sarah on board – her energy, expertise, and commitment to family law will make a real difference to our clients and our community.
